Before the comparison: Minnesota Registered Agent.co wrote this and sells the alternative it describes for $99 a year. Nothing below is a neutral assessment, and you should read it knowing that. The LegalZoom pricing is the exception, since it is the company's own published rate as recorded during our July 2026 verification.
Start With What the Brand Is Worth
LegalZoom is the most recognized name in this industry and has been for two decades, which in a field full of companies that appear and evaporate counts for something concrete. It is large, established, and operating under the kind of public scrutiny that smaller providers never face. There are situations where that matters practically rather than emotionally: a lender, a partner, or a cautious accountant asking who handles the company's legal service of process, and a familiar answer closing the subject faster than an unfamiliar one. Paying for recognition on purpose is a legitimate decision.
$249, and No Discount Anywhere in It
The registered agent service bills $249 a year and renews automatically at $249. Our review turned up no first-year promotion, no bundled reduction with formation, and no lower tier. It is the highest fixed annual figure in this category.
Give the structure its due first. There is no expiring introductory rate, which means nobody gets surprised in month thirteen by a number they never agreed to. Among companies that stage their pricing, LegalZoom's flatness is the more respectable arrangement, and we would rather compete against a high honest price than a low temporary one.
Now the composition question. In Minnesota, the statutory obligations of a registered agent are narrow and identical regardless of what you paid: maintain a real office at the registered address, be present during ordinary business hours, and pass along what is delivered. The state does not define a premium version of that duty. The $249 buys the name attached to it.

The Candor Minnesota Forces on Us
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereAn awkward thing to publish on a page selling registered agent service: many Minnesota businesses are not required to buy it. Minn. Stat. § 322C.0201, subd. 2 builds the articles of organization around a split. A registered office street address is required outright, while an agent at that address gets named only "if any." A Minnesota LLC can enter NONE and be entirely compliant.
Two limits apply. The registered office itself is never optional and cannot be a post office box on its own. And an entity that registered in Minnesota from another state has to designate an agent, no exception available.
We publish that because it reframes the whole comparison. If you are on LegalZoom's $249 plan as a Minnesota LLC, the law did not put you there. A judgment call did, and the judgment was probably sound: keeping your home address off the public file, and having someone whose job is to notice a summons on the day it is served. Those are worth paying for. The open question is how much.
Our $99, Itemized
A Minnesota business address that satisfies the registered office requirement and replaces yours on state filings. Instant scan and email delivery of every document received, which matters because a Minnesota response deadline counts from service, not from discovery. Around-the-clock access to a document dashboard. Reminders ahead of your compliance dates, including December 31. One line item at checkout, no upsell sequence. A flat $15 covers scanning an individual piece of routine mail, and that is the only optional charge in the account, printed here in advance.
Not the cheapest, then. BetterLegal's $90 holds that spot in Minnesota. $99 is among the lowest flat prices available here, and the argument on this page never depended on being first.
From LegalZoom to Us: Minnesota's Change of Agent Filing, Start to Finish
One document handles it. The Notice of Change of Registered Office/Registered Agent carries no form number, which is standard for Minnesota business paperwork rather than an omission, and the same filing can install a new agent, relocate the registered office, or do both together. Business Services at the Minnesota Secretary of State is the recipient.
The fee depends on how it reaches the state, and the ranking will surprise you. Sending it by post is $35. Submitting it electronically, or in person at the counter, is $55, because Minnesota labels those two channels expedited service and prices the speed into the fee. In exchange for the premium, an electronic filing posts to the record immediately, while a mailed one generally takes four to seven business days to process.
Two requirements are printed on the form. The change has to be approved by a majority of your governing body, meaning the members or managers for an LLC and the board for a corporation, before it is submitted. And you may not write your own company on the agent line, because Minnesota does not permit an entity to serve as its own registered agent.
Sequence it deliberately. If you intend to keep an agent, the successor has to be named on the notice, so the contract comes first, the filing second, and confirmation on the public record third. Cancel the LegalZoom subscription only after that, because the auto-renewal date arriving is not a reason to leave your state file pointing at a relationship you have already ended. Our Minnesota change of agent page lays the sequence out step by step.
